I was told to hand wash it every time, which is fine, and I can tell that when I use hot water it warps the lid, so I stick to warm soapy water. I know that wasn't their goal with the lunch bag. We're 6 months into using it. My son got the hang of it after a couple tries, because the latches are more heavy-DUTY than the Yumbox, and it can be difficult for kids to close at first. The trays from the Bentgo Kids seem to be more durable than the trays from the Yumbox. There is a I think the box is good for my son because it has enough food for him until he's in second or third grade. If your bread is small, you can cut it in quarters, but if it's huge, you'll need the largest compartment. My son's box is soft enough that we can fit the Lifefactory water bottle into it, even though the shell of the Bentgo Kids is larger. We recently purchased an LL Bean Discovery lunch box, and it is easy to fit both the Bentgo and Yumbox as well as a water bottle and extras. I bought this lunch box because of this. A holder is needed for the drink. The back corners have problems. I received a note from his teacher asking me to give my son a new lunch box because he couldn't close it. She had a hard time as well. I could see the damage to the back corners where they got caught. I don't like returning things because it's a hassle. I sewed the back corners of the lunch box in order to keep it from being open all the way. This has solved the issue. The manufacturers need to address these issues and I should have returned it.

👤I bought one of these lunchboxes almost five years ago and they have been wonderful ever since. My son used it for a long time. He was expected to carry, open, close, and store away his own lunch so the box went through many adventures. We decided to retire it and buy a new one. Other lunchboxes have poor results. This is the only one that has been through the wringer on a daily basis. I've never tempted fate by storing it alone in the sections. I bought the adult version and adult salad container because I love them. There are some things to keep in mind. The care instructions must be followed. It is not advisable to use the lower rack in a dishwasher. Occasionally I machine wash and hand wash my boxes. 2. A friend of mine didn't have much success with her cover case. I have purchased 4 over 5 years with no mold issues. 3. The clasps broke after a few weeks of use. My younger son's box has had this problem before. It is frustrating because they are such good boxes but expensive to have this happen after a few weeks of use. My son broke the clasp a month ago. I wrote it off because my son was aggressive. I bought this one in March. My son broke his clasp. I broke the 2nd clasp without putting much pressure on the covering which tells me that the clasps may be weakened. I will keep rubber banding the thing until a new one arrives. 4. I would like to see covers and inserts sold separately. Maybe by matching the funky colour choices. I could replace faulty parts for a cheaper price if they sold them separately. The company sells great products. If I can have one box that extends well past the lifetime warranted, and own others that work perfectly, then I know my latest purchase is not the norm. I will be buying more because they are usually useful and other brands have not come close to matching their claims.

I decided to change this back to a 4 star review because it has worked well for five months with no breaks. It's pretty sad to report that 12 days into using this one of the ledges that the clips connect over to create a snug closing for this box has completely broken off, so only one clip works to close it. My son was happy with the product and I am very disappointed. I can't find a way to return the 2 year warranty option that I bought on Amazon, so I have to return it for a refund. I can do that, but I really want to order another one as I'm hoping this was a mistake. It will take a long time to do both of those steps, and I don't want him to be without a lunch for a week.
