Best Eco Friendly Sunscreen Face

👤After we decided to switch from chemical sunscreen to physical sunscreen, I bought 4 different types of physical sunscreens to see which one I liked the most. I would not recommend it based on how it applied or made my skin feel. It is difficult to compare the feel of physical and chemical sunscreens because physical sunscreens are harder to apply and rub in. A quick primer is physical work by containing active mineral ingredients that sit on top of your skin. Chemical sunscreens turn UV rays into heat. The sunscreens that I tried were listed first. The ranking is based on ease of application and overall feel, since all 4 sunscreens protected me from the sun. Top 2 are recommended, bottom 2 are not. The recommended baby is the Blue Lizard Baby.

👤The product provided no protection from the sun. Two of my family members came back from a field event with very bad burns, despite applying the lotion multiple times during the day. The tube went into the trash. I will be giving feedback on their website. Don't spend your money on it.

👤I will be honest. I was expecting it to smell better. It has a fruity scent, but it was mostly chemical to me. It was easy to apply and didn't leave any film of white. This product didn't seem like spf 30 to me. I used it in Hawaii. If I use spf 30 I don't get any color at all and don't burn, but if I use spf 15 I may tan but also burn. I got a pretty deep tan but didn't burn. I have fair-med skin. If you're in a tropical location and don't want any color at all, I would recommend a highter spf. 👤This sunscreen has a lot of natural extracts in it, but it is also filled with a long list of synthetic ingredients. It looks like you just added a lot of plant extracts to your synthetic sunscreen. I did a patch test and it didn't make my skin itch, but since I was looking for a sunscreen based on natural ingredients, this didn't fit the bill. I'm still looking for a natural sunscreen.

👤I stopped using this product because it was drying and not emolient. The cast contains titanium dioxide and it's what happens! It was like spreading toothpaste on your skin. It left my hands dry. This was the downside of zinc oxide. It has been improved. It doesn't feel like it's so dry now, it rubs in better and the white cast disappears. If you want a mineral sunscreen that stays on the surface of your skin and is not harmful to the environment, you need a good percentage of zinc. You can get sun exposure right away. You have to wait 20 minutes for chemical sunscreens to absorb into your skin, not to mention what they do to the environment. No smart person!

👤You look like a crazy person because of the thick white residue. It won't stick to your skin. My family got sun burned when it didn't protect the skin, even though it may protect the reef. If you are a person of color, forget it. It looks like you just took a milk bath and then covered yourself in a thick white film. You will be embarrassed going out with it on your skin. We ended up throwing it out because of the bad sunburns and the look/feel, but I am all about saving the reef. Unfortunately, don't recommend.

👤The sunscreen is terrible. I bought the 3 pack to protect us from the sun on the beach. It doesn't absorb into the skin at all and looked ridiculous, so people avoided using it, and ended up with sun poisoning. Even those that did use it ended up burning. I brought a horrible sunscreen for everyone and will never buy it again.

My kids are very active, but they don't like putting on sunscreen. I want something that keeps them safe from the sun and chemicals in sunscreen, and that stays on for a while. All of my boxes are checked. We tell our kids we are going to make them look like a ghost, t-Rex, lion, and anything they like when we do sunscreen on them. We tell them to scare the other parent so they don't get scared and the only way for the other parent to stop being scared is to rub the sunscreen on. This has been working for a while now so I will take it. If it helps you, that's great!

👤We all got a very bad sunburn after applying very liberally and more than once in a 2 hour time frame. It was listed as an EWG top natural sunscreen. I've been using Blue Lizzard for a long time and never had anything like this before. I don't know if summer time shipping with the heat degrades the product. I bought Blue Lizzard at the height of summer. This product is supposed to be SPF50, but it didn't come close to the protection of its competitor. Very dissatisfied and burned very badly!

👤I have used think baby sunscreen for a long time and have always liked it. I am sorry that I switched to thinksport since they are getting older. We were out in the sun for 3 hours with 2 liberal applications and both of my children have terrible sunburns. I used to apply with the think baby, so there should have been no way to get this badly burnt. I will not be using this sunscreen again.

👤I spent a week on the beach. Couldn't ask for more. It has a bit of a white tint, but rubbing it in and applying it in sections makes it seem less noticeable. This is an issue for my teen. I don't care. I want to play in the water and not get burned. I didn't have to worry about my son's eyes getting wet from most sunscreens, it was waterproof, and my sensitive skin didn't get dry. A 6oz tube with multiple daily applications lasted the three of us for a week.

I burn badly when I use Neutrogena sunscreens in the pool because they wash off after an hour. Even after getting my face wet to let it'soak in', it still runs into my eyes, and I burn through many of them. This product doesn't run because it's a very thick consistency, and since it's zinc and not a chemical sunscreen, I don't break out as badly. Since this is tinted, it doesn't leave a white cast, and I don't have to wear anything to cover my skin, it keeps my skin tone even in the pool where I don't have the option of wearing something. Even if you rub your face with your hands, it will stay on for a while. This is designed for light to medium skin tones and there is only one shade, so it's not in different shade options. A person with a medium to deep skin tone would not be able to wear this without a cast on their skin. It looks tan on me when I use it, but once I rub it in it isn't as intense as it looks when you first see it. It appears orange in some lighting, but once rubbed in it is not orange anymore. I started using this about 2 months ago. I have been using this product for two months and have been getting some new skin problems, but I'm pretty sure it's because of hormones, not the sunscreen. After sending in my photos to get color matched, I went to get it again, but this time I ended up with a shade that wasn't for me. Ilia was too oily and didn't give good coverage. There is a It matches me more perfectly than anything I have ever ordered off Amazon. It's absolutely zero white cast, blends in and soaks in. It is a higher SPF. It is a fraction of the price of the brands at the store. It doesn't feel like you have to pay attention when you blend it because it gradually dries and soaks into your face. I feel like I can get out the door after putting my face cream on because I have no other time to do my make up. There is a I am returning the stuff I bought at the store because they do it all for free. I have used a tinted sunscreen from Josie Maran for a long time and it looked a bit oily. I wish I had found it sooner. You will not regret buying this!

👤This is not reef safe and I am very disappointed. I bought this for a trip to Puerto Rico, where I was looking for reef safe sunscreen. I didn't learn Octocrylene is not reef safe until I got back. I would give this a rating of 0 to 5 stars. This didn't have a bad smell, was good sun protection, didn't leave a white cast, and didn't give me an allergic reaction. I have sensitive skin due to the autoimmune condition. I have had an allergic reaction to all of the sunscreens I have tried, but only the one that is SPF 19 and not water resistant is the one I have used. I am pale and burn easily, and this sunscreen worked great. There wasn't a white cast. It didn't feel sticky or oily. I am very disappointed and angry that this is not reef safe, especially when advertised this way, as this is my new go to for all my non- reef activities.

When the product squirts out, it appears thick, but when you rub it, it becomes clear. Even with my sensitive and thin skin, you don't have to rub in a lot. It is easy to wash off with soap and water. I trust the EWG to keep me safe because of the titanium dioxide mineral content and the high zinc oxide and zinc oxide content that assures me of the sun protection. I am applying a full 1/2 teaspooon to my face and neck. It seems like a lot but when it dries down, you will be happy to have enough on to make sure no more hyperpigmentation or dark spots appear. I am a Pacific island of descent. I would have to be out there all day to burn, and sunscreen is helping me to avoid further damage from my youth. sunscreen is important because I am treating my sun damage with retinol and lactic acid. This says a lot to me. I have only used a few of the sunscreens I tried. I like mineral over chemical. I like to buy cheap products. This one is close to being the one. The FDA proposed rating system will not pass the UVA rating according to the EWG. I am more interested in UVA protection than it claims, so it is not enough for me. I have turned down this sunscreen and lowered it to 1 star. The zinc oxide's actives mineral content is only 10%. The bare minimum protection is verified as not being the sunscreen for me. I threw the bottle away.

👤I hope this review helps someone. I have red hair and light skin. I went to Hawaii two months ago and it was amazing. I have always used various sunscreens, but they didn't give good protection, or if they did, I would get really itchy and uncomfortable skin when I washed my skin after being outside. There is a Good protection! I used a loofah and a body wash and it came off easily, but it was too white. I agree that it is very white, but if you massage it in for a few minutes, it will absorb and you can't see it. My friend who is very dark skinned used some and initially was a bit upset with the color. I told her to rub it in, but a few minutes later she couldn't tell. It's a good thing that it doesn't blend well at first, but you can see what you have covered and what you haven't. The amount of times I missed a spot is unbelievable. This is to protect you, not to look like a model.

Coral resilience can be reduced due to the high ocean temperatures that are killing corals worldwide. This product has false claims and should be avoided. Other substances are harmful to the reefs. According to the sustainable tourism association of Hawai'i, sunscreens with the "reef safe" label may still contain harmful chemicals. The best option for you and the reefs is to cover up. You need to check the label if you still need to apply sunscreen. Avoid products with avobenzone. This product contains all of these chemicals.

👤I wouldn't buy it again. Since we have a pool, I have tried about a dozen brands of sunblock. My kids have sensitive skin. I was looking for something that wasn't mineral. There is a Family owned recycled packaging is a pros. Even for a long time in the pool, reef friendly works well against the sun. Consistency isn't smooth when you rub it in, and would prefer a higher spf.

👤I burn easily because I am fair skinned. I want a sunscreen that's safe for me as well as the environment, so naturally I've tried every mineral sunscreen known to man. Mineral sunscreens don't work well for people who burn easily. I was overjoyed when I saw this chemical sunscreen on EWG, it's a physical sunscreen, but it's considered chemical if it isn't zinc. It has a nostalgic sunscreen smell, but is very light compared to most. Non-active ingredients make this sunscreen different from others. The sunscreen that helps bind to your skin making it water resistant is what Dimethicone is. Amodimethicone is a 1 on EWG and is better than dimethicone to keep it 80 min water/sweat resistant. I use spf 50 most often during high UV index TOD and spf 30 for earlier and later TOD. Remember to layer your sunscreen on thick, let it soak in for a bit, and reapply after 80 minutes.

👤The title and text say it's reef friendly and safe for use near natural reefs, but all of the active ingredients on the back are banned in Hawaii. If you're using this sunscreen outside of a pool, you may be damaging our environment. Our reefs are being killed by the chemicals in sunscreens in the ocean, so lakes and rivers may be fine, but not there. Even if I didn't care about that, it feels like an LIE to put "reef safe" on the label and heading of the product when it's clearly not! There is a I can't use this sunscreen because I don't want to hurt my skin. I am out the money because I am not able to return it because it is considered a dangerous item to ship. I paid for the items.

I put my faith in this. It did not work and my family and I both suffered from burns from the top of our feet all the way to the tips of our ears. I apply this banana boat sunscreen to all places. How can a product fail so badly? Photos of my burns have been included. I would look twice at this product if I were you. Don't buy it. If you try to prevent sunburn with this product, you will be Miserable. I will return the faulty sunscreen for a refund. I just hunted for the coppertone and I wish I had done it earlier. The banana boat will never get a dime from me. Don't sacrifice your skin for money. I hope I can save people from reading this review. I am unable to return this product because it is dangerous. Go figure. I will write Banana Boat directly and see if it makes a difference. I still have faith in my review. Unless you like sunburns, don't buy.

👤I live in Iowa. I've had one episode of skin cancer and I'm bald. I use the new SPF 100 products when biking or spending time outdoors in the brutal Iowa summer sun. Since there is no need to protect the Iowa ocean beaches, I worry about protecting myself. There is a I have never been to Kauai and Oahu before. The ocean environment in Hawaii is very important. I ordered this stuff on Amazon before I left Iowa. I was in the Hawaiian Islands from February 2 to February 20, 2020. I used the product when I was snorkeling off the coast of Kauai. I got home with zero sunburn, I didn't hurt the environment in Hawaii, a little goes a long way, and this stuff didn't, so I really like the product. Each of the four things I like is worth at least a star and a half so five stars as far as I'm concerned.

👤Went to the Caribbean for a week. I burned so badly, my body was swollen, and I was miserable, even though I used 50+ protection. The horrible smell and taste of every other sunscreen I have used did not go away if it got near my mouth or nose. This sunscreen works. There is no bad smell or taste. It is safe for sea life, and the water does not affect its effectiveness, so I like that. I rubbed it in a bit more to regain the natural look after I left it a bit white on my nose and shoulders. If your skin is not conditioned for high level sun, you should apply every 4 hours.

It was slightly itchy at the beginning but it went away after a few minutes. My wife did not have that itch. We used it as recommended on the tube. I have never gotten sunburnt while wearing it, but I do reapply it every hour and a half to two hours depending on what I am doing. My husband and I are going on a week-long beach vacation, only taking carry-on bags, and need sunscreen, so I was excited to find small travel size bottles of it. We fit 20 bottles in a quart size bag, which is equivalent to two standard 8oz bottles. See the pictures for reference. One of us will bring a quart size bag of toiletries with us, the other will have everything else. I am very happy with my purchase. There is an edit. We bought a pack of bottles.

👤I saved my skin in Costa Rica. I was sweating like a pig there. This sunblock did it. I only reapplied when I needed to after swimming or showering, and we were in the hot equator sun. I'm a fair skinned redhead. That's saying something. The travel size was great. We only did carryon luggage so the travel size was necessary, but the size was also great so I could carry a bottle in my purse/ hip bag when out on excursions.

👤I think this is one of the best sunscreens out there, as you don't really need anything more than SPF30 for effectiveness. The spf30 doesn't feel heavy on your skin, and it spreads quickly. I use this frequently because I live in a place where there is plenty of sun. It doesn't sting as much when it runs in your eyes as some other sunblocks. I like having these scattered around where I get dressed for the day, so I remember to apply, if just a little bit.
